Hazardous Materials

The proper management of hazardous materials represents an increasingly important aspect of environmental compliance. Examples of failure in this area are illustrated almost daily in the media. The consequences of such cases on a facility's operation are often devastating and can impact everyone from employees to customers.

MSDS Management
Facilities that have hazardous chemicals onsite are required to maintain up-to-date Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for each hazardous chemical. CTI has developed a proven system to organize and maintain a facility's MSDSs. CTI will take an inventory of all your facility's chemicals and obtain all necessary MSDSs. For chemicals that are no longer used, the MSDS will be marked as obsolete and filed for 30 years. CTI will organize and index the MSDSs using either an electronic or paper system. CTI's staff can perform monthly inventories for the facility to keep the MSDS system current as well.

CTI's staff can also prepare a paperless, user-friendly electronic MSDS Management System based on the unique SingleClickTM software. Click here for more information on the SingleClickTM system

Additionally, CTI offers MSDS preparation for your facility's products. Our clear, accurate, and user-friendly MSDSs can be prepared in both US and European formats. The MSDSs provide all information required by regulatory agencies and produce a great appearance for product marketing.

Asbestos
Asbestos was commonly used in building elements prior to 1979. The EPA recommends a proactive Operation and Maintenance (O & M) Program when asbestos is discovered at a facility to control the release of asbestos fibers. The O&M program is required until the asbestos-containing material (ACM) in the building is abated through renovation or demolition activities. CTI has experience in inspecting facilities for asbestos-containing materials, as well as in creating these Asbestos Operating and Maintenance Plans .

PCB
Also since 1979, the EPA has enforced the Toxic Substances Act (TSCA), which bans the manufacture, processing, commercial distribution, and use of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). PCB contamination can be a significant area of concern and liability at many facilities. CTI is capable of determining whether any PCB contamination exists in vulnerable areas at your facility. Our trained staff is also prepared to remediate any PCB contamination discovered.
